Hey, Multiplex fans!
With the production of the animated short now COMPLETE, we’ve launched an Indiegogo Second Chance campaign to help fund the distribution and marketing of the short.
Rewards include the Multiplex 10 short preloaded onto a Multiplex 10 wafer USB card, the screenplay, or even a VERY limited number of producer credits, if you’re into that. And the stretch goals include producing ALL-NEW Multiplex 10 “webisodes.” So if you miss Kurt, Jason, and the rest of the Multiplex 10 gang, head on over to the Indiegogo Campaign page to learn more — and watch a preview of the first scene from the short!
But act fast, because this project ends on January 5, 2018 11:59pm EST! It’s a quick one!
With the end of post-production in sight, I can finally announce that the Multiplex 10 animated short will be released to the public via Vimeo On Demand on January 29, 2018!!! (Kickstarter backers will get to see it over a month earlier, though, via an exclusive early access streaming link!) The time in-between is necessary to maximize our marketing mojo. We need to submit to film festivals, send out copies for review, and so on, as that is our best chance to raise the funds to make more (and even better) Multiplex 10 episodes.
Thanks to everyone for their patience while the short was in production (and post-production), especially during the several weeks I needed to take a break and fix my shoulder. We’re allllmost there.
To help tide you over until then, here is a snippet of composer Tangelene Bolton’s wonderful original score:
Hello! Tangelene Bolton (our composer) and Ian (our sound designer) are plugging away at the sound and noises for the Multiplex 10 short. It’s looking like the short will be released to our amazing Kickstarter backers in late December, at this point — and then it will be a month or two more before it is released to the general public.
To tide you over (for a little while longer), here are a few Multiplex 10 reaction GIFs for you to snarkily share whenever someone says something about movies on the Internet.
Ta dah! Here is the official Multiplex 10 theatrical poster.
As an update on the post-production, Ian and Tangelene are hard at work on the sound design and score (respectively), and we’re aiming to get the final mix done in early December. Kickstarter backers will be able to stream the short as part of their “early access” reward sometime in December — but we’re holding off on the digital release (via Vimeo On Demand) for a little while, in hopes of lining up some film festivals and other hype magnets. Gotta maximize our Multiplex 10 marketing mojo!
I just finished the final animation for the last remaining shot in the animated short. I’ve been alternating between polishing and animating shots for the last month, so I just need to spend a couple more days polishing before I’m ready to say the visuals are completely locked.
BUT. Sound designer Ian Vargo is beginning work on the short, and composer Tangelene Bolton is eagerly awaiting the final, locked footage so she can get to work.
I’m thrilled with how everything is looking, though; my one disappointment being that my arm injury kept this short from being finished three months ago.
Ah well. In any case, we’re now officially targeting a DECEMBER release via Vimeo On Demand, as well as a handful of theaters around the country. (If you’re a movie theater manager/owner interested in screening the short, get in touch!)
MULTIPLEX 10 centers around the lives of the movie-loving and customer-weary staff of the Multiplex 10 Cinemas. Kurt is an usher, pining for that special someone to share his love of horror movies. The newest hire, Jason, is a film snob who just needs a freakin’ job, okay? Jeez. Despite their differences, the pair will make fast friends — unless they kill each other first.
Directed, executive produced, and animated by Gordon McAlpin, MULTIPLEX 10 was co-written by McAlpin and Dana Luery Shaw (“Echo Chamber,” “Classic Alice”), based on the comic strip “Multiplex” created by Gordon McAlpin. The cast includes Gordon McAlpin, Tom Brazelton, Dana Luery Shaw, Aiyanna Wade, Javier Prusky (“Halt and Catch Fire”), Joe Dunn, and Chris Rager (“Dragonball Z”, “Borderlands 2”). Tangelene Bolton (“American Zealot,” “Jem and the Holograms”) composed an original score.
A Chase Sequence and Strangewaze film, MULTIPLEX 10 is coming in January 2018 to Vimeo On Demand and select theaters.
